A Day In the Life as a Collateral Management Specialist

The primary role of a Collateral Management Specialist at MidSouth Community FCU is to process all DMV paperwork on consumer loans with collateral, ensuring perfection of title on new loans, release of title on paid off loans, and the servicing of requested changes on existing loans.

The Collections Department is a small team directly led by the Collections Manager and housed at our Lasseter branch in Macon, GA. This department is a busy environment that contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail, then takes the appropriate action to bring current. As a Collateral Management Specialist, your duties would include:

  • Maintaining current knowledge of DMV rules and regulations. Exhibiting vital participation in receiving feedback from NCUA examinations, third party audits, and internal audits. Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and assuming responsibility and accountability for titles and CPI coverage.
  • Auditing DMV documentation, collecting fees, and processing paperwork to secure title. Inputting and tracking information using appropriate databases.
  • Contacting any and all involved parties necessary to resolve any outstanding loans not yet perfected with the correct title. This could include members, dealers, coworkers, out-of-state DMV clerks, and any other party involved.
  • Posting final payments and payoff requests. Releasing titles of paid off loans. Posting collateral protection coverage premiums and refunds and processing any necessary claims to member loans in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring various reports on a daily basis, software programs for titles, and collateral protection insurance coverage.
  • Serving as backup for VISA credit card program and account maintenance in ClientLink software. 
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

What Are We Looking For?

If you have worked in a collections department or otherwise in a financial institution that requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, this position may be perfect for you! It's also important to be courteous, compassionate, and empathetic.

Additionally, we are looking for a person who is able to effectively balance priorities, while maintaining a level of high professionalism and courtesy to all members.

Experience: Two to five years of similar or related experience

Education: (1) A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.

 

How is the Work Schedule?

The Collateral Management Specialist position is a full-time role, working 40 hours weekly.
